The project is a broad collaboration across the scholarly communication ecosystem, in particular, working closely with the Collaborative Metadata Enrichment Taskforce (COMET), in which DataCite contributes an organizing role.

Objectives

Persistent Identiﬁers (PIDs) are the backbone of how we discover, link, and use research. Yet the PID system also has a critical ﬂaw: the metadata that binds everything together can only be updated by its original creators, resulting in accounts that are often incomplete, outdated, or incorrect—and preventing contributors with enhanced, quality information from improving what’s shared across the research community. This project will change that by creating new pathways for trusted sources of quality metadata to directly enhance and update PID records at scale.

To make this possible, this project will deliver:

New workﬂows and tools to validate and integrate improved metadata
Reporting tools that allow researchers and institutions to easily access, manage, and report on enriched metadata.
