DataCite actively participates in and leads various initiatives through collaboration
with stakeholders in the community to make open science a reality.

DataCite is a supporter of the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information and participates in a number of community working groups organized by the initiative to drive systematic transformations in the research information landscape.

The Collaborative Metadata (COMET) initiative aims to enhance the completeness, consistency, and interoperability of metadata across the PID ecosystem through proven models for community curation and enrichment. DataCite provides organizing support to the initiative and is piloting COMET enrichment projects.

Distributed System of Scientific Collections (DiSSCo) provides research infrastructure for natural science specimen collections. Through a collaboration with DataCite, DiSSCo is elevating the discoverability of its resources.

The Global Access Program (GAP) is an initiative to improve access and enable communities in lesser-represented regions to further benefit from our open infrastructure services. The program has been made possible in part by grant 2022-316573 from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

The International Generic Sample Number (IGSN ID) is a globally unique and persistent identifier for all material samples originating from any research discipline. Through a partnership with the IGSN association and community stakeholders, DataCite provides the technical infrastructure to support registration, metadata management, and discoverability for IGSN IDs.

Make Data Count advances open tools and practices to enable the research community to evaluate the reach and impact of data. DataCite partners with Make Data Count to support community engagement and infrastructure development.

DataCite is an adopter of the Principles of Open Scholarly Infrastructure (POSI) and collaborates with other POSI adopters to reinforce best practices in governance, sustainability, and community-driven infrastructure. DataCite periodically conducts its own audit against the principles.

Research Activity Identifier – RAiD logo

RAiD is a persistent identifier and global registry for identifying, tracking, and sharing research projects. DataCite provides the underlying infrastructure to support RAiD registrations.

DataCite is an organisational member of the Research Software Alliance (ReSA), a global initiative that brings research software communities together to advance the research software ecosystem. Through this membership, DataCite supports international collaboration, the sharing of best practices, and stronger recognition of research software as an essential part of research.

A global registry of research data repositories from various academic disciplines, re3data supports researchers and other research stakeholders to identify appropriate repositories for data management activities. DataCite’s partnership with re3data connects DataCite members and metadata users with key information about repositories and supports alignment with FAIR data practices.

The Research Organization Registry (ROR) is a global, community-led registry of open persistent identifiers for research and funding organizations. DataCite is one of ROR’s three operating partners, providing in-kind support for ROR’s core expenses and activities. ROR IDs are also fully integrated across DataCite services and infrastructure.
